On this International Day of La Francophonie, we underline Canada’s deep commitment to its two official languages and the vital role played by French, both at home and around the world. This language is an essential bridge connecting us, even more so given that French is now the fourth most-widely-spoken language in the world. Canada is greatly enriched by its ties to the francophone world, particularly through our participation in the International Organisation of La Francophonie, of which Canada is a founding member and leading partner.
